GURUGRAM: The urban local bodies (ULB) department has directed the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) to terminate the contracts of outsourced junior engineers (JEs). The vacant positions will be filled by 13 JEs recently appointed by the department.
Additional chief secretary (ULB) SN Roy issued an order on Wednesday directing MCG and seven other municipal corporations to terminate the service contract of outsourced JEs who are working against sanctioned posts.

In its order, Roy said the action was taken after it came to light that various municipal corporations, including those of Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunagar, Sonipat, Hisar and Rohtak, have engaged outsourced manpower against sanctioned posts of JEs. The order said such an engagement was done as a stop-gap arrangement and the department will provide regular JEs. It further directed municipal commissioners to submit an action-taken report within 15 days.
Sources informed that MCG had hired 37 outsourced JEs, while 13 were recently appointed by the ULB department. Asked about the number of JEs to be terminated, MCG commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said, “I haven’t processed the file now and will take a decision after examining the provisions.”
Last year in November, then MCG commissioner Amit Khatri had terminated the services of 58 staffers of the 1,950 outsourced employees who were hired bypassing the norms, citing that their work was not found satisfactory.
